Program Description

POSTION SUMMARY: The Environmental Steward maintains homeowner's properties in
Bed-Stuy. The position is outdoors and encompasses street cleaning, leaf/snow removal
services, acquisition and movement of supplies and equipment. In addition, the
Environmental Steward must partake in PR-G's program every Saturday 11AM - 5PM

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: PR-G supports New York's underserved young adults
with educational programs, as well as work and volunteer experiences, while seeking to
maintain a community where the residents of Bed-Stuy can be proud to reside. PR-G's
vision is to eliminate teen after school idleness through holistic programs.

Foot Soldiers is an environmental, job readiness, community service, and money management
initiative, which through a combination of volunteer and paid activities teaches Bed-Stuy
teens the skills they need to:

  • Work responsibly - Based on punctuality, attendance, work quality and respect for
    authority.
  • During after school and weekend hours, PR-G stipends economically disadvantaged
    high school students to recycle, remove rubbish, leaves and snow from sidewalks,
    and curbs of our members' properties.
  • Elevate their financials IQ.
  • Manage and track their finances.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Money Management. Every Saturday for five months participate in PR-G's financial
    program.
  • Weather. Employees are expected to conduct their job during rain, sleet or snow.
    (proper attire is provided). Workers are not required to work in severe or harsh
    weather conditions.
  • Prime Candidates are:
    • In high school between the ages of 14-19 (if not in school, must be in a GED
      program) - 1 point.
    • able to provide current transcript - 1 point.
      • GPA of 85 or above - 2 points.
  • Prime Candidates are:
    • in possession of a cell phone - 1 point.
    • used to using email, and have a email address - 1 point.
    • able to produce two recommendation letters (from teacher, church, other
      employment, etc.) - 1 point.
    • able to possess an inviting character
    • residents of Bed-Stuy - 2 points.
      • Or one of the following communities:
        • Brownsville - 1 point.
        • East NY - 1 point.
        • Bushwick - 1 point.
        • Crown Heights - 1 point.
        • Flatbush - 1 point.

STIPEND: The standard position is for three days each week between Sunday through
Friday from 4:00 - 6:00pm (approximately 6 hours each week). The opening stipend is
$84 biweekly (up to 10 buildings). Income increases after 10 buildings or if work more
days by request.
