How
we conduct our Rites of Passage
The NYF-ROP curriculum consists of Four Values: Personal Development, Martial Arts, Community Service Projects, and Hard Work. Each day of the curriculum consists of a different value, which includes personal development, community care, and hard work.

Personal Development:
Each participant takes approximately 20 - 30 educational workshops. Workshop themes focus on money management, entrepreneurship, having healthy relationships, urban community, safety, life preparation, health and wellness. Within each theme there are at least four workshops, led by a guest facilitator who is a professional in the field.

Martial Arts:Participants practice Urban Contemporary Jujitsu under Grand Master Bill McCloud at Martial Arts USA. Eighty percent of the martial arts experience involves learning how to master life, time-management and personal affairs. The martial arts experience involves developing the confidence to follow dreams and personal goals. It builds courage, which helps participants do things that people lacking courage might not attempt. Through martial arts students learn from failure to successfully conquer the future.

Community Service Projects: Participants brainstorm and assess community needs, create an action plan and budget, plus implement and evaluate two community projects in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Each student will gross 80 hours during the planning and implementation of these projects. Past NYF-ROP participants created PR-G's Annual Community Pride Day.

Finally, each participant will gain the value of hard workthrough paid and non paid internships. PR-G has relationships with a variety of nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and corporations that will allow participants to have opportunities to work or intern with their organization. These opportunities will build the young person's basic soft skills in the work environment and provide experiences that will aid them in multiple aspects of their lives.

The cost of the program is $200.00 per month plus a $50.00 enrollment fee, however many teens qualify for a full scholarship thanks to a grant from the New York Foundation. Selected students would only be responsible for the enrollment fee.

New York Foundation Rites Of Passage (NYF-ROP) is a program for teenagers in high school.
